BOOKING TICKETS

Accessible tickets can be booked online or by phone. Tickets will be sent to you as e-tickets, and may require that you show ID when you arrive at the Theatre. We accept PIP or Blue Badges as ID. If you would like to present an alternative form of identification please contact us so that we can check if this is possible.

BUILDING ACCESS

The Box Office and Royal Circle are on street level; patrons with limited mobility are recommended to sit in the Royal Circle. Other areas of the auditorium can only be accessed using stairs and unfortunately there is no lift. Please speak to our Box Office staff to discuss your requirements when booking your tickets.

The Foyer Bar serves the Royal Circle and is accessible via ramp or 3 steps. The Front of House team are available to assist with bar orders and will ensure that all audience members are comfortable during their visit.

ACCESSIBLE TOILETS

There is one accessible toilet which is located in the Royal Circle on the high numbers (19-35) side of the auditorium. The toilet is a large cubicle fitted with a hand rail, accessible wash basin, outward opening door and emergency alarm.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESS

There are level transfer positions in the Royal Circle, Row A, seats 4-5. There are also two wheelchair positions in the Royal Circle in Boxes F and E and a wheelchair transfer position in Box B. Boxes F and E are accessible via ramp and Box B has level access followed by a two-step transfer. Please note that both Boxes F and E have side restricted views.

Front of House staff will look after a wheelchair for any patron wishing to transfer into a seat; it will be brought to the user during the interval and at the end of the performance. When booking, please state if you are a wheelchair user so that our Box Office staff can ensure the best seats are available.

The Theatre also has its own wheelchair that is available for anyone who may require it. Please let the Box Office know if you would like to make use of the wheelchair when you book.

ASSISTANCE FOR DEAF AND HEARING IMPAIRED PEOPLE

The Theatre is equipped with an infra-red system and headsets are available on request; please speak to our Front of House team when you arrive if you require one. If you get in touch in advance, our Box Office team should also be able to let you know in advance which seats in the auditorium are best located for this facility.

GUIDE AND HEARING DOGS

Guide dogs and Hearing dogs are welcome at the Theatre. They may sit with you in the auditorium or our Front of House team will look after them whilst you enjoy the performance.

CAR PARKS

The nearest car park is the NCP at Selkirk House on Museum Street. The car park has two disabled bays and two passenger lifts. Places at this car park will be charged at the rate set by NCP. There are metered bays on High Holborn, opposite the Theatre, which are available to Disabled person’s Blue Badge holders.

ASSISTED PERFORMANCES

The Shaftesbury Theatre regularly presents assisted performances; please ask the Box Office for details. Captioned performances are generally provided by StageText, British Sign Language interpreted performances by Theatre Sign and Audio Described performances by VocalEyes.

The following information on assisted performances has been provided by the SOLT Access Theatre brochure.

Captioning is similar to subtitling. At a captioned performance the words are displayed on a screen(s) placed near the stage or in the set and can be seen at the same time as they are spoken or sung. Speakers’ names, sound effects and offstage noises are also shown. A trained captioner prepares the script in advance to mirror the rhythm and flow of the performance and the captions are delivered live as the action happens on stage.

At Sign Language Interpreted Performances an interpreter will stand in a clearly visible position and interpret the spoken and heard aspects of the show.

Audio Description is a live verbal commentary providing information on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds. It describes action that is essential to the understanding of the story, as well as other visual information such as the style and design, sets, costumes, facial expressions and visual jokes. The description is delivered around the dialogue of a performance and patrons listen to it through a discreet headset.

& JULIET ASSISTED PERFORMANCES

The latest assisted performances for &Juliet will take place on the following dates:

Audio Description: Tuesday 18th January 2022, 7:30pm. Reduced Touch Tour at 5:30pm, viewing costumes and props from the show displayed on the stage from the front of the auditorium.
